Don’t Blink

Stare straight ahead.

Don’t make eye contact.

Don’t look down.

Head up.

Don’t Blink.

Eyes burning.

Swallow hard.

Breathe… out of your mouth.

Through the nose makes it worse.

Burning. Itchy.

Cough.

But don’t blink.

Short and shallow are the breaths.

Need more.

Who stole the source?

Selfish acts.

Moments lost.

But don’t think on those today.

Heavy. Tight.

Gasp.

But don’t blink.

Lost are the months and years.

Gone forever.

Caught in lashes,

that act as temporary gates.

Unwilling to be more.

Unable to resist.

The blink.

Watery. Red.

Release.

Relief.

Catch it.

Falling.

Too late.

Failure.

Unwanted reality.

Time.

Words.

But don’t blink.

Another follows.

Betraying the moment.

Lighting the face.

Swelling the eyes.

The heart.

Beats faster.

Slows down.

Stops.

Broken.

Still.

Don’t blink.
